Michael Steele bested South Carolina Republican party Chairman Katon Dawson 91 to 77

The Republican National Committee elected Michael Steele as its first African American chairman today in Washington.

On the sixth and final ballot Steele bested South Carolina Republican party Chairman Katon Dawson 91 to 77.

Steele had previously served as the chairman of the Maryland Republican Party, the state's lieutenant governor, and the GOP nominee in the Maryland Senate race in 2006.

Steele was born on October 19, 1958, at Andrews Air Force Base in Prince George`s County. He spent his childhood in the Petworth neighborhood of Northwest Washington,D.C. which Steele has described as a small, stable and racially integrated community that insulated him from some of the problems elsewhere in the city.

Steele grew up in a Democratic household. However, as a young man he switched to the Republican Party.

Katon Edwards Dawson (born Feb 29, 1956) is an American politician from the state of South Carolina, current chairman of the South Carolina Republican Party and was a 2009 candidate for chairman of the Republican National Committee.

In August 2007 Dawson drew national attention for his decision to move the 2008 South Carolina Republican presidential primary from Feb. 2 to January 29, preserving the state's "first in the South" primary. In every election since 1980, the winner of the South Carolina primary has won the Republican presidential nomination.

Artist Rich Cronin LFO Star with Leukemia ......................... [lfo, futbolsanse, urogallo, quebrantahuesos ]

Rich Cronin - LFO Star with Leukemia

Rich Cronin (born Richard Burton Cronin, on August 30, 1975) is a singer and songwriter best known as the lead singer and primary songwriter for the American pop group LFO.

Born and raised outside of Boston, at age 15, Rich Cronin began writing songs to instrumental tracks.

As soon as LFO disbanded in 2002, three years after striking gold with the song ”Summer Girls,” Cronin hoped to release a solo album, but lawsuits with managers over royalties and publishing interests kept getting in the way.

Rich has been very busy these days battling Leukemia, while at the same time searching for a band to promote his new original music….now that’s dedication!
A bone marrow sample revealed that he had acute myelogenous leukemia, which most often afflicts adults over the age of 60, says Cronin’s oncologist Dr. Robin Joyce.

LFO was best known for the 1 hit ‘Summer Girls’ (a/k/a the Abercrombie and Fitch Song) and top 5 single ‘Girl on TV.’ Both songs, along with all of the music on the double platinum selling group’s follow up album ‘Life is Good’ were penned by Cronin.

Born out of Rich Cronin's own personal fight against acute myelogenous leukemia (AML), he organized the Rich Cronin Hope Foundation for Leukemia. The Foundation is dedicated to the care, compassion and life enrichment of individuals and families impacted by Leukemia. Their main mission is to promote awareness about simple ways that healthy individuals can save a life. Encouraging people to donate blood and to register with the National Marrow Donor Program NMDP as volunteer marrow or stem cell donors, the Hope Foundation hosts drives across the country.

Michelle Obama chooses Isabel Toledo for swearing-in ceremony, live inauguration coverage 2009

Michelle Obama has chosen a sparkling yellow dress and coat by Cuban American designer Isabel Toledo for the swearing-in ceremony in Washington today. Obama looks polished but celebratory in a shade of yellow that echoes the sunny day.

Isabel Toledo (born April 9, 1961) is a Cuban-born American fashion designer based in New York. Toledo was named creative director of Anne Klein in 2006 after more than twenty years of working solely under her own name; she was let go from that position in 2007.

Isabel Toledo was born in Cuba and moved to New Jersey where she attended high school and met her future husband and collaborator, Ruben Toledo.

In 1984, Toledo married artist Ruben Toledo and in 1985 presented her first collection. In 1998, she stopped presenting biannual collections, instead choosing to create on her own schedule.

Along with her husband, Ruben Toledo, Isabel was the recipient of the Cooper Hewitt national design award for their work in fashion in 2005. Toledo made her debut with Anne Klein at New York Fashion week in February 2007 to critical acclaim. She and Anne Klein parted ways, however, a few months later.

Toledo was also the recipient of an Otis Critics' award named for her at the Los Angeles-based Otis College of Art and Design.
